The categorization of Italian wines ensures the quality of the wine and protection for the consumers. DOGC designated Italian wines have to pass a blind test in order to conform to the legal requirements of the Italian appellation system.
Among foreigners, some of the more famous Italian wines include Asti, Chianti, Soave, Barolo, and Barbaresco. Asti, Barolo and Barbaresco are from the Piedmont region.
