Oregon has several wine-producing regions throughout the state. Wines from Oregon come from these areas. The main region on the coast is the Willamette Valley. Many of the vineyards lie on the west side of the river. This region is well suited for Pinot Noir. Another noted region in Oregon is the Southern Oregon area near the California border. The varieties of grapes from this area include Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Cabernet France, among others. Umpqua Valley is another region growing wine grapes. The majority of grapes from this area are Pinot Noir.
Rogue Valley provides a number of varieties due to soil differences in different areas. Some of the grapes from this region include Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Blanc, Sangiovese, Doletto, among a dozen or so others. The Columbia Gorge provides grapes in the Shiraz, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Cabernet, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. The Walla Walla Valley is home to Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The Snake River Valley provides grapes from the Riesling, Chardonnay, and Gewurztraminer varietals. This range of grapes provides the basis for these fine wines from Oregon.
