This is an excellent buy; the quality of the fruit is top drawer and the winemaking is as clean as a whistle which allows the natural minerality of the regions to shine through. They allow the wine to spend 6 months in new French and American oak to give added structure so this shares many characteristics of a crianza once opened. The nose is very pure and the palate concentrated; whilst the powerful tannins dominate at first these fade to provide a lovely mouthfeel and balance once the wine has breathed a while. Spicy, smooth, and highly recommended.

Producer: Páramo de Guzmán made their reputation internationally with one of the most sought after cheeses in Spain, a raw, sheep’s milk cheese marinated in extra virgin olive oil which they have been producing for over 20 years, before turning their hand to winemaking. A natural transition given their location on the banks of the River Duero. They have 25 hectares of vineyards surrounding a modern, efficient winery and they have clearly bought the same attitude they have when producing award winning cheeses to their wine operation quality first, second and third.
