Prolonging the life of your cut flowers begins the moment they're entrusted to your care. First off, make sure your vase is very clean and filled with fresh, lukewarm water mixed with flower nutrients. Next, strip off all leaves that will be below the water level of the vase and cut 2cm off all stems at a slight angle. Place the flowers in the vase, away from direct sunlight, radiators, draughts and fruit. Over the following days, be sure to remove any faded flowers and top up the water regularly.

Producer: At this estate in the southern Rhone, near the famous Chateaunuef-du-Pape estate of Chateau Beaucastel just outside the town of Orange, Daniel Chaussy is making some of the best wine in the region (his 2004 Cuvee de Quet is one of the wines of the vintage and was awarded 5 stars in Decanter magazine) and it’s just a question of time before he achieves ‘super-star’ status. Blended from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignan the Côtes du Rhônes are both excellent and are as good as many other producers Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
