Yannick and the team have really captured the enticing damson and cherry Merlot fruit on the nose, with that faint ‘earthiness’, then Syrah shines through on the ripe, spicy but savoury palate of ripe plum, strawberry and gentle black pepper. Good food structure.

This is what the Languedoc does best; a lovely combination of ‘classic’ French gentle almond nuttiness, floral aromas and minerality combined with warmer climate peach and fresh pineapple fruit. Ripe but balanced – what’s not to like?

Producer: The Terres Rousses project is a collaborative effort between a number of local winemakers fronted by Yannick Pons across 80 plus hectares of vines in Nissan Les Ensérune, close to Béziers. Vineyards are on sandy and argilo-calcerous soils, and fermentation is temperature-controlled in stainless steel. This really is the Languedoc at its best great with or without food.
