Wines from USA

Many wines from the USA come from California. California produces about 89% of all the wine that comes out of the US. However, other regions in the country provide wine as well. Many wines from around the US provide a range of flavours and qualities for those that enjoy wine. Each state has at least one working vineyard for both local and regional consumption.

Of course when talking about wines from the USA, California must be at the top of the list. Not only do wines from this state dominate the amounts of wine, they are also the ones that hold the most international appeal. California wine production dates back to the introduction of wine grapes by Spanish missionaries. Sonoma received its first grape cuttings around 1805. These early grapes were not of highest quality, but they did provide the basis for today’s grapes. Today, California wines range from dry crisp wines in the Old World style to the full fruity reds that mark New World Wines. Moreover, others provide plenty of variety in between.

Oregon is making its mark in the world of international wine. Wine became commercially viable since the 1960s. Oregon has Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Riesling grapes among others. Washington state and New York are another significant producers of wines from the USA. Vintners are making progress in producing quality wines for palates around the world. These areas will continue to bring surprises to wine lovers everywhere.
